Kia Ora! My name is Genna Elvin and I am in the last year of my Bachelor at Victoria University of Wellington in... you guessed it! New Zealand.

I have a strong passion for International Relations, hence the reason I’m studying it, as well as psychology for the last three years at university as well as the many years before that in my own time.

For me, my passion is for more of the world to see a little deeper into NZ then sheep, All Blacks and Lord of the Rings.  I hope one day people can appreciate NZ for its interactions with the major players on the global stage. Also, to appreciate NZ’s courage to stand up when it perceives something to be unjust, or not right, yet to have the ability to stand united when the task is necessary.
In my opinion, in this ever modernising world we live in, knowledge is a very powerful gift and if I can contribute just a little bit to the world, I am happy.

I love to travel, to experience the globe in different ways and too see how NZ is different or similar.  From these comparisons I like to see how we can possibly improve or change ourselves to be more successful and efficient and to make the world run a bit better, particularly in the harsh times that some of us are experiencing today.

Currently, I am also conducting research into the analysis of New Zealand political speeches, through detailed human coding, in order to establish the emergence of political ideology, which can then be contrasted across leaders and parties.  I want to eventually gain enough insight to even possibly make future predictions and identify a successful and efficient coding process for political discourse.

With regards to this topic of speech analysis, my study of psychology has played a significant role in assisting me with not only the scientific method of conducting such research, but also the integration of such psychological components, as memory analysis, social psychology and basic psychological ideas of word usage to portray psychological states.  Hopefully, information with regards to this topic will be put on this site soon.

Eventually I hope to integrate these two components, international relations and psychology, as in my opinion they sit rather harmoniously together in attempting to understand the relationships and lack of relationships that are apparent in today’s world.

Another project of mine, and one that is currently in progress, is that of the development of a survey to assess the global perceptions of New Zealand as a country.  I hope gain greater insight with regards to how the rest of world perceives New Zealand and what they actually know about this small country in the bottom of the world.

Next year my ambition is to study International Relations at the Kent University Brussels School of International Relations.  Continuing my study of International Relations in Europe, especially at this school, will prove a strong comparison to that of New Zealand, and will definitely help me understand international relations at a much more ‘global’ level.  Also, as many know, Brussels is the hub of the European Union and many regard it as ‘capital of Europe.’  A great number of the world’s significant international organisations, NGO’s and think tanks are located within this vibrant city.  Hence it seems, the perfect place for my continued learning about the world, how it interacts, and its global challenges.

If you have any information you would like to share with me regarding anything on the website or the topics and ideas I have just mentioned, I would love to hear from you and I can be contacted at the following email address:

I hope you enjoy learning about NZ, and any feed back is much appreciated, as Albert Einstein once said - “information is knowledge”
