Can New Zealand Help Burma?

New Zealand Pro-Aung San Suu Kyi protestors are encouraging NZ Prime Minister to extend NZ sanctions against Burma
After the reportage of yet another devastating blow for Burma (Myanmar), with the arrest of democratic heroes Aung San Suu Kyi, the local Burmese community in New Zealand has held a candlelight protest in an attempt to urge the New Zealand Prime Minister, John Key to extend its sanctions on Burma.
One activist told the New Zealand Herald that "In silence, we will be saying our own prayers in the hope that world leaders will be the voice of the Burmese people who lost our voice to the military regime."
The protest was held at Auckland University, in an attempt to defend Ms Suu Kyi, against the newly laid charges. The protestors want the New Zealand Government to follow in the steps of President Barack Obama, in formally extending sanctions.
Something needs to change in Burma, yet it is still not known if extending yet more sanctions is a step in the right direction, the people are suffering, will extending sanctions worsen this already horrid situation?
