John Key’s first day in New York begun with meeting former US President Bill Clinton with the pair not only discussing climate change, but also Afghanistan, which is a relatively contentious issue for a lot of New Zealanders.

As well as visiting the past NZ Prime Minister, Helen Clark, while visiting New York, a key feature of the trip was the Clinton Global Initiative, which was an international summit that brought together a significant number of world leaders to discuss key environmental issues.

Another highlight for the Prime Minister was meeting the President of the United States, Barack Obama. It was the first time John Key has met, however, not the first conversation as the spoke on the phone earlier in the year.

Questions were raised by New Zealander’s as to travel by the NZ Member’s of Parliament,

"We do buy carbon credits to offset our air travel. And I'm walking from the hotel so I'm playing my part."
